To my family
Christmas Snow 2008
Cindy Christensen
It’s 34 degrees and snowing
Our house has icicle hair
Outside the trees are quite “Suessical”
In a mantle of snow so rare.
Our driveway is thick and rutted
The van can’t motate one foot
The snow is so deep and so heavy,
We chained up the 4 wheel drive truck.
Inside our house is all cozy
Our fridge and our pantry are full.
We’re stuck indoors for a season,
But with 6 kids no moment ever is dull!
We’ve sledded, and snowballed and shoveled
Took the ATV for a spin,
Fed the goats the fresh hay by the end of the day
And photographed each scene and each grin.
We’ve learned enough from this episode—
No mail, no paper, or UPS.
The satellite’s down, there’s no movies,
And life without internet? a test.
It looks like we’ll have our ‘white Christmas’
Day 12 since this cold spell set in
This extreme postcard town we’ve acquired
Has brought patience, priorities and perseverance.
So, while I love Christmas and family,
And picturesque scenes in the snow,
Once Christmas is over, I’m certain
This whole artic weather must go!
