Last Day

CHURCH

We went to church in the Kihei ward and really enjoyed our three hours there. The Kona temple president and his wife spoke, and it really impressed us how blessed we are to live just minutes away from a temple. The wards there plan a trip to the temple once or twice a year, and it's a sacrifice as they have to pay for airfare, hotels, rental cars, food and babysitting.  They usually spend 3-4 days there and up to 8 hours serving in the temple, sometimes without eating since they have no cafeteria.  I couldn't help but think how we take our convenience it for granted.  We happened to be leaving when brother and sister Mossman were leaving the church-we took a moment to compliment them on their talks and ended up visiting for 15 minutes or so.  In the course of conversation she mentioned how she had written a Hawaiian song in tribute to her great grandmother for a story FamilySearch had done about her.  Sister Mossman is in the 4 minute video, and when we got home we googled it-it is very inspiring.  Here's the link:

Her grandmother was 24 years old when she came down with leprosy and was consigned to the leper colony on Molokai.  It's only a 4 minute video-you should watch it.  She said they got a couple of actors from BYU for the film, and she narrates it.  She also said that her grandfather miraculously was healed, but he stayed with Emma till she died, then he went back to the Islands and found all 6 of his children.  He also remarried and had 3 more children. Sister Mossman saw to it that he was sealed to both wives and all the children.   We also found the other vignettes by FamilySearch to be very inspiring.  I'd recommend you go through them!

LAST HIKE

We finished up our Hawaii experience by going on a hike to see the Iao Needle, a 2250 foot high peak.

This the beautiful valley near the peak. This is a high view of a taro and native plants garden.

This is a close up of the garden. Taro is the small green plant in the fore ground.

This is Iao needle behind us. It was a look out point during the Hawaiian wars.

This the view from the point toward the ocean.

We hiked along a beautiful stream with many pools. We found a big rock to sit on and drank in the scenery and had a lovely discussion about our day at church, the temple, our family, and our trip. It was the perfect ending to our time in Maui.

We are so glad we took this trip, and had 30 years to celebrate. Life is so good, and has been so good to us.
